About Skinny Wheels Pedals & Pints
Where Salisbury’s Cycling Community Meets
Since 2013, Skinny Wheels Pedals & Pints has been Salisbury’s home for cyclists who refuse to settle for ordinary. We’re not your typical bike shop—we’re a community hub where expert bike repair meets genuine hospitality, premium bikes meet cold craft beer, and riders of all levels gather to share the passion for cycling. Located in the heart of downtown Salisbury at 111 W Innes Street, we’ve built something special: a place where you can drop off your bike for service, grab a locally brewed pint, and connect with fellow cyclists throughout Rowan County. Whether you’re a seasoned roadie or just discovering the joy of two wheels, you’re part of our family. This is our story.

Our Story: From Mocksville to Downtown Salisbury
Founded with a simple question: What if getting your bike serviced could be as enjoyable as riding it? That question led to the Pedals & Pints concept—a unique space where customers can enjoy local brews while our mechanics tune their bikes.
The Beginning
Skinny Wheels began in Mocksville as a traditional bike shop with a passion for serving cyclists throughout Rowan County. From day one, we focused on expert service and building genuine relationships with our customers.
Moving to Downtown Salisbury
We relocated to 111 W Innes St in the heart of downtown Salisbury and expanded our vision. We renovated the space to include a draft beer taps alongside our professional bike workshop—creating the Pedals & Pints concept.
Community Growing
Weekly group rides launched, and Skinny Wheels became the gathering place for Salisbury cyclists. We weren’t just fixing bikes—we were building a community.
Complete Renovation
Major renovation modernized our shop while maintaining the welcoming, community-focused atmosphere that defines Skinny Wheels. Updated workshop equipment, expanded bar area, and refreshed the entire space.
New Ownership
In December 2024, Skinny Wheels changed ownership to Porter and his family. Continuing the locally owned and family operated tradition that started in 2011.
Salisbury’s Premier Bike Shop
Proud to be Salisbury’s premier bike shop and a gathering place for cyclists of all levels. Authorized dealer for Velotric, Bianchi, Marin, Niner, State and more. Still serving with the same passion we started with.

About Porter Baker
Porter Baker’s life in cycling began at home—surrounded by a family of riders, including three racing uncles, he grew up immersed in the sport. That passion turned into a profession in 2012, when he began repairing bicycles and building the foundation for his mechanical career.
In 2014, Porter earned his Mechanic’s Certification from the United Bicycle Institute in Portland, Oregon, further sharpening his technical skills and preparing him for the professional racing circuit.
From 2015 to 2016, he served as a professional road mechanic for the Hincapie Racing Team, supporting elite riders at major events such as the Tour of California, Tour of Utah, Tour of Alberta, and the 2015 World Championships in Richmond, Virginia.
Porter continued to expand his experience in 2018 as a pro mechanic for Pro-Cycle America, completing a full coast-to-coast ride from Seattle to Boston, Massachusetts.
Throughout his career, Porter has worked in several bike shops across North Carolina, becoming a well-known and trusted mechanic in the region. His personal riding journey is just as expansive—he has ridden bicycles across the United States and counts the Western Slope of Colorado and Moab, Utah as two of his favorite places to ride. He has also participated in the Tour of Tanglewood (Bike MS) multiple times.
An avid mountain biker and road cyclist, Porter remains deeply connected to the cycling community. A lifelong Rowan County local, he also serves on the Greenway Committee for the City of Salisbury, contributing to local outdoor and trail initiatives.
In December 2024, Porter and his family took ownership of the shop, proudly carrying forward its tradition as a locally owned, family-operated business.
